What are the 4 M's?

Journalists asking questions

In the early stages of our foundation, we established our mission and what we hoped to accomplish with this nonprofit. We developed a saying of words that really captured the essence of our goal in helping young journalists succeed.

With our model of 4 M’s, we hope to Motivate young journalists, Mentor and advance their skills, and lessen the financial burden by providing Money to help them achieve their place at the Media table. Let's dive deeper into what each M stands for:

  1. Motivate: One goal we have is to motivate the next generation of journalists. We want them to feel confident in their skills and thrive in whatever media field calls to them.

  2. Mentor: Sometimes the best way to learn about a field or specific line of work is to speak to someone who works there already. We hope to pair our students with mentors who can teach them things beyond traditional learning environments.

  3. Money: We understand the struggles of going to school but also needing to pay bills. We hope to place students in paid internships so that their main focus is on learning and growing in their careers.

  4. Media: Obviously one of the M's had to be media. We are a foundation focused on journalism and media-related fields. Our hope is to help fill newsrooms with students that reflect the community that they are apart of and who are passionate about being the voice of the next generation.

Beyond the 4 M's, there is a fifth M and that's Minority. We want to fill our local media outlets with people that reflect the community we live in. San Diego is so diverse and our newsrooms should express that.

If you are interested in our program as a student or a mentor, please feel free to reach out to us. If you believe in our cause as much as we do, please donate or share our organization with your friends and family. There's no better time than the present to make a better future for the generations to come.
